Amya Miller, Owner, Lupine and Co. of http://www.lupineandco.com is a friend of ours and united worldwide’s Japanese Cultural Consultant.
Born & raised in Japan Amya had lived there for 18 years. This Thursday she will be leaving to spend two months in Ofunato and Rikuzentakata, two cities devastated by the tsunami, offering her translating services to aid in the relief effort. To put in perspective how catastrophic this disaster actually is, Rikuzentakata had a population of roughly 24,000 before the tsunami hit, and of this 24,000, 18,000 are feared missing or dead.
Amya is traveling with an organization called All Hands Volunteers, she choose them because they are a smaller organization and donations get to those in need sooner and less money is taken for overhead, their methods are practical and tangible for the victims.
Of the trip Amya says:
“I won't mince words: I'm scared. I also know this is the right thing to do. I have a supportive family who is saying "go!" and for this, I am grateful.”
“The devastation there is beyond what we could ever imagine, people have lost everything. The people of Japan are a resilient people and they will get through this, I spent so many years there I just feel that I need to do something to help.”
united worldwide has purchased a duffle bag and filled it with basic necessities, which Amya will take it with her to distribute directly to those effected by this tragedy
We wish Amya the best of luck and know she will return back safely.
